What we believe
BIBLICAL OUR CORE BELIEFS
First Baptist Church of Longwood holds to the essential doctrinal tenets of the Baptist Faith and
Message of the Southern Baptist Convention. Here is a brief summary:
1. The Scriptures – Divinely inspired and therefore is totally true and trustworthy.
2. God – One and Only personal Creator, Redeemer, Preserver and Ruler of the universe
revealing Himself in three unique and distinct forms; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
3. Man – Special creation of God made in His image, fallen from grace and innocence
through sin.
4. Salvation – Personal redemption of the whole man offered freely to all who accept
Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death, resurrection and atonement by faith.
5. God’s Grace – Freely extended to all mankind in order to bring them into a saving
knowledge of Jesus Christ. It then keeps the believer in a state of security through
sanctification.
6. The Church – A two-fold expression of the grace of God represented by the organism
of all redeemed followers of Jesus Christ throughout history and the organization of
the autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the
faith and fellowship of the gospel.
7. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper – The two ordinances of the local church which identify
a believer to the body of Christ.
